For a Pharmacy Technician position in Ohio, the minimum requirements are established by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.
An individual must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a high school diploma or GED (or be actively working toward one if permitted under current regulations)
- Pass a criminal background review as required by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
- Register with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy before performing technician duties (upon hire)
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Comply with all Ohio Board of Pharmacy regulations and standards of conduct
Certified Pharmacy Technician (Preferred):
In addition to registration:
- Hold current national certification through either:
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT)
- National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT)
Job Qualifications
Required
- Basic computer skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations (with on-the-job training)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods (4-6 hours)
- Ability to lift up to 25–30 pounds (occasionally)
- Manual dexterity sufficient for prescription preparation and packaging
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
- National certification (CPhT or ExCPT)
- Previous retail, hospital, or long-term care pharmacy experience
- Familiarity with pharmacy software systems (e.g., PioneerRx, Rx30, QS/1, etc)
- Experience with insurance billing and prior authorizations
- Experience with medication synchronization, adherence packaging, or immunization support programs
